Maybe a Start // Try Every Day

Try Every Day #23

As I continue to work my way towards actually cutting something in wood, I’ve been doing a bunch of research, looking for my first image. It might be something like this, and there are a few reasons why.

If you have never thought about relief printing then it takes a bit to wrap your head around. All those black areas… that is the part that remains un-cut. The white areas are what I’ll actually have to cut out. Something like this… large black areas with no fine lines… means that this will be easier to cut.

It also gives me lots of opportunities for creativity in the dark areas. It’s hard to draw white in, but I can add texture to the tree when cutting by taking little chunks of the black out, making bark-like designs. So, I’m getting close to actually trying to carve.
